About CalculEat
CalculEat is a nutrition app that combines science-based calculators with simple food logging — all in one place.
What is CalculEat?
CalculEat helps you calculate your calorie needs (TDEE), plan macronutrients, log food and track your body composition. We focus on precision and scientific foundation — not on simplifications that can lead you astray.
Our methodology
Calculators: All calculators are based on published research. The TDEE calculator uses Mifflin-St Jeor for BMR (validated in independent studies as the most accurate for the general population) and five PAL levels (1.2–1.9) for activity factor. We also offer 9 alternative BMR formulas for different populations.
Food database: Food data is sourced from the Swedish National Food Database (Livsmedelsverket), USDA FoodData Central and user-submitted foods. We verify contributed data via a community system.
Information content: All articles and explanations are reviewed against published research (PubMed, WHO, ACSM, EFSA). We include source references so you can review the evidence yourself.
Limitations
Calculators provide estimates — not diagnoses. TDEE formulas have a margin of error of approximately ±10–15%. Individual factors such as muscle mass, hormonal balance and metabolism affect the real value. Always use the results as a starting point and adjust based on actual outcomes.
CalculEat is not a medical tool and does not replace advice from a dietitian or doctor. For illness, eating disorders or special medical needs — always consult healthcare professionals.
